The Self Assessment estimator with income and expenses entered, showing the allowance, each rate band, the National Insurance line, the balancing payment and the two payments on account.
Pro saved this year's figures, so next January's return opens with them rather than an empty form.

This is the sheet the rest of the site hangs off. Put in the year's income by source, the allowable expenses against each, and the allowances that apply, and it builds the Self Assessment bill the way the rules do: personal allowance first, then the rate bands in order, then Class 4 National Insurance on any self-employed profit, then anything that sits on top such as the High Income Child Benefit Charge. It then shows the balancing payment and the two payments on account that follow, because the January bill is usually not just the year's tax.

What somebody filing their own return asks about the Self assessment tax return calculator

Why is my first January bill so much bigger than the tax on my profit?

Because it is usually the balancing payment for the year just ended plus the first payment on account for the year you are in. The sheet separates the two so you can see which part is which before the money is due.

Can I reduce the payments on account?

You can, if you expect the coming year's bill to be lower. Reduce them too far and HMRC charges interest on the shortfall, so the sheet shows what each instalment would be at your estimate and what the interest position is if the estimate is wrong.

Is this figure my tax bill?

No. It is what the published rates and thresholds produce from the numbers you entered, shown step by step so you can check it. Only the return you file, and HMRC, determine what you owe.
